Privacy
We collect as little as we can: your email address, and whether you'd like product updates. Here is what we do with it.
Who we are
This site is run by Distant Finance (“Distant”, “we”). We decide how your data is used, which makes us the controller under the GDPR. Questions go to hello@distant.fi.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you join the waitlist.
- Whether you ticked “Email me product updates”, and when.
- When you joined, which also gives your place in line.
- Where you came from: the domain of the site that linked you here (such as x.com) and any campaign tags in the link, so we know which posts and links bring people to the waitlist. Never the full address of the page you were on.
- Technical data: our host processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver the site and keep it safe. We use your IP address briefly to stop automated sign-ups and don't store it with your email.
- Anonymous page statistics (see Cookies below).
Why we use it
- To confirm your place and send your invite. A confirmation when you join, and your invite when your place comes up. You asked for these by joining, so we rely on taking steps at your request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- To send product updates, only if you ticked the box. That's your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), and you can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to hello@distant.fi.
- To see which posts and links bring people to the waitlist, counted per domain and campaign tag. That's our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)).
- To keep the site secure and working, including stopping spam and abuse. That's our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)).
We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to build a profile of you.
Who helps us
These providers process data on our behalf, under contracts that bind them to our instructions:
- Supabase stores the waitlist (United States).
- Vercel hosts the site and provides the anonymous page statistics (United States).
- Resend sends our emails and, if you opted in, keeps you on the product updates list (United States).
Transfers outside the EU and UK
Our providers store and process data in the United States. Where they are certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK extension) we rely on that; otherwise we use the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. Ask us for a copy of the safeguards at hello@distant.fi.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address until we've sent your invite and for up to 12 months after Distant launches, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever is sooner. If you become a customer, our customer privacy notice takes over. We keep a record of your consent to updates for as long as we need to show it was given.
Your rights
You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable format. You can withdraw consent to updates at any time. Email hello@distant.fi; we'll answer within one month. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Cookies
This site doesn't use cookies, and nothing is stored on your device to track you. Our page statistics are cookieless and anonymous: they count visits and pages without identifying you or following you to other sites.
Children
Distant is a financial product for adults. The waitlist isn't meant for anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change matters to how we use your email, we'll tell you by email first.
